The first resources for Level 3 BCATS, the Assessment Guidelines for Level 3 BCATS Unit Standards and the Assessment Record Sheets, are now available through the “Level 3 Unit Standards” tab to your left.
Student resources will be added as they are finalised over the coming months.
BConstructive are hands on programmes that lead to two qualifications: the National Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (BCATS) at Levels 1 and 2. They are innovative, practical and multi-disciplinary programmes for students, providing them with the skills and knowledge to springboard into any career in the construction industry.
The BConstructive programmes are primarily workshop based. Rather than focusing on any one trade, the programmes build skills and an understanding of all trades in the construction industry. They also develops literacy, numeracy and communication skills and have close links with the NCEA and the Technology curriculum.
There are two qualifications currently available. These may be offered at senior secondary school or at polytechnics and private training establishments. All of the resources are available on line, free of charge.
The full qualification documents can be viewed on the NZQA website using the link below:
Students who participate in the BConstructive programme can go on to consider apprenticeships in a variety of trades such as: carpentry, brick and blocklaying, painting and decorating, flooring, joinery, plumbing and gasfitting, frame and truss, aluminium joinery, and so on. The programme also provides a good base for students who would like to enter other related areas of the construction industry such as architecture, quantity surveying and estimating.
The programme complements other schemes such as Gateway, careers and transition programmes, work experience and Young Enterprise.
